Aphidius colemani is an excellent searcher and can locate small colonies of ahpid when populations are low. The female wasps search for nymphs or adult aphids by sensing the odor of infested plants and the aphid's honey-dew secretion. Using her ovipositor the female will insert an egg inside the aphid host and when the egg hatches the larva begin to eat the aphid causing its death. A new adult emerges through a round exit hole at the back of the mummy. 
Each female wasp can lay up to 300 eggs, most during the first days of adulthood. The presence of a parasitic wasp can cause a panic reaction where aphids fall down to escape and some won't be able to climb back and die.
